The history of the Technology Museum of l’Empordà
began one Sunday morning some thirty years ago. On that day, Pere
Padrosa went out for a stroll around the town. He ended up at the
market that is held in Figueres on the first Sunday of every month.
His eyes looked idly on the different stalls until they settled
on an old typewriter. He went back home and spent his afternoon
repairing and cleaning his newly acquired treasure: a 1910 portable
Erika manufactured in Dresden.
Since then, that typewriter has been joined by sowing machines,
clocks, telephones, heaters and many other typewriters, as well
as a variety of other objects. That morning marked the beginning
of a collection that is today on exhibit in its own museum.
The museum is the result of enthusiasm shared by others. Pere Padrosa’s
wife, Margarida Pierre, has been his accomplice in his work. Together,
they have travelled thousands of kilometres to visit fair after
fair, market after market.
The objects on exhibition at the museum make up one of the best
collections of machines from the period of the industrial revolution. |
