Figueres is the main town in the l’Alt Empordà district and stands between the Pyrenees and the Mediterranean sea. It is a place of crossing from Europe to Africa, and a gateway for civilisations and cultures into Catalonia and Spain.
In 1875, Figueres was given the title of town. It came as the recognition of a village which, from the 17th to the 19th century, had become the main venue for the artistic trends of Europe.
Nowadays, Figueres is a busy, cultural town. Everyday, people from all over the world visit its museums.
The Technology Museum of l’Empordà has now joined the cultural offer of the museums in Figueres and exhibits a collection that illustrates the Industrial Revolution.
